Rice and your gut

Rice (or kanin) is a staple in Philippine cuisine as well as most Asian countries. But did you know that if you have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, rice may be one of the things you have to give up to allow your gut to heal, especially during a flare-up? Rice is not allowed on the elimination phase of the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP Diet), and it’s considered an “illegal” food under the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I've tried replacing rice with cauliflower rice, or sometimes I eat a dish or “ulam” as is. Is it as satisfying? Maybe not, and it will take some getting used to, especially if you're a hardcore rice eater (kanin sa umaga, tanghali, meryenda at gabi!). But it’s something I’m willing to sacrifice in exchange for comfort and one less trip to the bathroom
